From Proto-Indo-European *derǵʰ- (fenced lot), or from Proto-Indo-European *dergʰ- (to catch, grasp).[1] Cognate with Lithuanian daržas (border, halo, enclosure, garden), Old Church Slavonic подрагъ (podragŭ, hem, edge, rim).
