From Proto-Indo-European *ḱúh₁mn̥, from the root *ḱewh₁- (“to swell”) + *-mn̥; equivalent to *kū- + *-mə.[1] Compare Ancient Greek κύριος (kúrios), Latin cumulus, cavus.
