Reconstruction:Proto-Italic/lawāðrom
Proto-Italic
Etymology
From Proto-Indo-European *lówh₃trom, from *lewh₃- (“to rinse, wash, bathe”), probably remodeled after *lawāō (“to wash, bathe”) + *-ðrom or formed independently. De Vaan considers the Latin /a/ in both the noun and verb to result from an archaic o-grade verb in PIE.
