Cognates include Proto-Avaro-Andian *q̇ʷirc̣omi and Lak вилцӏун (wilcʼun). Compare also Proto-Georgian-Zan *barc̣₁- (“barren, sterile (of cattle, livestock)”).
Reconstruction notes
Perhaps the direct stem should be reconstructed as *bHirc̣oᶰ, and the oblique stem as *bHaarc̣an-. For this type of alternation, see *ip (“mill race”), *imkal (“camel”), *inḳala (“glass”).
