Etymology
From Proto-Finno-Permic *külmä, possibly borrowed from Pre-Baltic (compare Lithuanian geluma), and if so, ultimately derived from Proto-Indo-European *gel-. Cognates include Komi-Permyak кын (kyn) and Proto-Finnic *külmä (“to be cold”).
