  • Do not confuse this word with *pa (“man, male”).
    • STEDT not only conflates the two words together, but also spreads such a putative "man, father" word across three lemmas: *p/ba (linked to Chinese 父), *pʷa (linked to Chinese 夫) and *wa.
    • It is impossible for the "male" and "father" words to be the same, since Chinese clearly distinguishes them.
  • Prenasalized and voiced initials may be due to some nasal prefix.
