Proto-Sino-Tibetan

Reconstruction

  • Proto-Sino-Tibetan:
    • Proto-Tibeto-Burman: *suːr ⪤ *swaːr (Chou, 1972; Matisoff, 2003; STEDT)

The rGyalrong comparanda in Zhang, Jacques and Lai (2019) do not belong here; they are probably instead loans from Tibetan སྐྱུར་བ (skyur ba).

Bears an uncanny resemblance to Proto-Germanic *sūraz (sour).

Verb

*səwr

  1. to be sour
