Proto-Sino-Tibetan

Reconstruction

  • Proto-Sino-Tibetan:
    • Proto-Tibeto-Burman: *sram (STEDT)

The s- pre-initial being replaced by a hp- in Burmese remains a mystery. STEDT presumes that Burmese hp- results from reduction of borrowed Proto-Austroasiatic *bɕeʔ, that also appears in Chinese (biān).

Noun

*sV-ram

  1. otter
