Etymology

Probably a contamination of an earlier *pečětь (“brand”), formed as *pekti (“to bake, to cook”) +‎ *-ětь, under the influence of an Oghur term (per BER) surviving as Chuvash пичет (pič̬et, “seal, cachet”).
