Etymology
From *spě̀ti (“advance, ripen, hurry”) + *-xъ, ultimately from Proto-Indo-European *speh₁- (“succeed, prosper”). Cognate with Lithuanian spė̃kas (“power”), Latvian spȩ̀ks (“power”).
