Etymology
From Proto-Germanic *hūzijaną, possibly from Proto-Indo-European *kuHs-yé-ti, from *kewHs- (“to pay; to hire”) + *-yéti.[1] Cognate with Hittite 𒆪𒊭𒀭 (ku-uš-ša-an /kuššan-/, “pay, salary, fee, hire”).[2]
