From Dutch schaap (“sheep”) + huizen (“home”). The spelling uy for /yː/ is one of the typically Dutch spellings found (in Germany) only in the Lower Rhine region; compare Broekhuysen. The spelling ae for /aː/ also occurs elsewhere (e.g. Raesfeld, Bad Laer).
