Tomarus
Latin
Alternative forms
- Tmarus
Etymology
Borrowed from Ancient Greek Τόμαρος (Tómaros). A mountain with the same name exists in Berat, Albania, and other places also share a similar name, namely Tomorrica in Skrapar, Τόμαρος (Tómaros) and Illyrian *Temus, from Proto-Indo-European *dʰh₁s-o-. Altogether suggests a common Illyrian origin. Alternatively related to marr (“obtain, get”) from Proto-Albanian *mar(en)-, thus meaning "obtainer".
