Etymology
First attested as seaeuuald and seuuuald in 793. Compound of Old Dutch sew (“sea, lake”) and uuald (“marsh forest, swamp forest”). Originally the name of a forest somewhere near Gelderland. The name was later chosen as a suitable name for one of the planned villages in the Flevopolder.
