From Ancient Greek ἄκος (ákos, “remedy”) +‎ -logy. The first element could be from Proto-Indo-European *Hieh₂ḱ-. Or, less likely, related to Old Irish ícc (“healing, cure”).[1] Or, of Semitic/Egyptian origin.[2]
