Etymology

Coined by Charles Richet and Paul Portier from the Ancient Greek ᾰ̓νᾰ- (ănă-, (intensifier) thoroughly) from ᾰ̓νᾰ́ (ănắ, to, again, upon) and φύλαξις (phúlaxis, protection, watching, guarding).
