Etymology
From Proto-Albanian *arwā (though note the -r- instead of the expected -rr-), from Proto-Indo-European *h₂r̥h₃-wé-reh₂ (“fertile soil”), from root Proto-Indo-European *h₂erh₃- (“to plough”). Cognate to Ancient Greek ἄρουρα (ároura) and Sanskrit उर्वरा (urvarā). Possibly related to arbër, arbën (“Albanian”); see arbën for more. Related to Messapic aran.
