cënorë
Albanian
Etymology
From cen.[1] Lambertz groups it with other Arbëresh words such as cinoj (“to sting, to pierce”) (passive voice cinohem, in Piana degli Albanesi), cëmdonj (“to poke, to mock”) (in Montecilfone), and cënoj, and wrongly derives it from cimb (“sting”), claiming a parallel formation with dialectic Calabrian nzinniare (“to poke, to prod”), from Italian zinnare, from Latin cinnus (“grimace; wink”).[2][3]
