Etymology

From *cicër +‎ -oj; based on *cicër, close to Proto-Germanic *titrōną (compare English teeter, German zittern (to shiver, tremble), Icelandic titra (to twinkle; shiver)). Alternatively, onomatopoeic related to ciu and cër.[1]
