Etymology

From Proto-Turkic *tēlbe (mad, crazy). Cognate with Turkish deli, Azerbaijani dəli, Bashkir тиле (tile), Kazakh дәлду (däldu), Kyrgyz тели (teli), Uyghur تەلۋە (telwe) and Uzbek telba.
