Etymology

From a Vulgar Latin root *disvolvere, from Latin dis- + volvere, or alternatively from Romanian des- + (în)voalbe (on the basis of deschide-închide, descărca-încărca, desfunda-înfunda, etc.). Compare Spanish desenvolver, also Italian svolgere.
