Etymology
Inherited from Proto-Oghuz [Term?] (ayla) metathesis from Proto-Turkic *anlayu. Compare Old Turkic 𐰣𐰞𐰖𐰆 (anlayu), from 𐰣 (an-, “she, he, it, that”) + 𐰞𐰖𐰆 (-layu) (similative suffix). Compare Turkmen ol (“she, he, it, that”), from a merger of earlier an. Compare beýle (“like this”), şeýle (“like that”).
Cognate with Azerbaijani elə, Turkish öyle, etc.
