förfrysa (present förfryser, preterite förfrös, supine förfrusit, imperative förfrys)
- (intransitive) to suffer frostbite
- Du bör ha tjocka kläder så att du inte förfryser.
- You should bring thick clothing so that you won't suffer frostbite.
- (transitive) to cause to suffer frostbite, usually accidentally and to a body part.
- Jag glömde ta med vantarna och förfrös mina händer.
- I forgot to bring my gloves, and my hands suffered frostbite.
Usage notes
- Although the second sense is transitive, it is not typically used in the passive voice because of difficulties with conjugation; for example, the past tense passive would be the awkward *förfröses.
