gandėtis

Lithuanian

Etymology

Thought to be derived from an older verb negandė́ti (to not have enough, not suffice), with the initial ne dropped. For a semantic parallel (albeit with words of different etymology), Smoczynski compares the Polish collocation obawiać się niedostatku (to fear paucity). The root of the verb is connected to ganà (enough); see there for more.[1]
