Etymology
From Old French grosele (13th c.), from a Proto-West Germanic *krōsilā,[1] possibly related with *krūs (“curly, frizzy”). Cognate with Walloon gurzale. For Germanic cognates see Luxembourgish Kréischel. Compare also Dutch kruisbes.
