Akin to Moselle Franconian Krinschel, Krönschel, Ripuarian Krönzel and (with metathesis) Knürschel, Knurschel, Limburgish kroonsel, kroosjel, kroezjel, Middle Dutch kroesel, French groseille. All from a Proto-West Germanic word tentatively reconstrued as *krōsilā,[1] possibly related with *krūs (“curly, frizzy”).
