From holo- +‎ -gram, from Ancient Greek ὅλος (hólos, whole) + γραμμή (grammḗ, letter, line), coined by Hungarian-born British scientist Dennis Gabor in 1948, the 1971 Nobel prize winner in physics for his work in holography.
