Originally ‘snout’, from Proto-Albanian *skuntā, from *skuna (“take, pole”) (modern hu), close to or derived from Proto-Germanic *skuna, *skunō (compare Faroese skon, Norwegian skut (“projection, overhang”)).[1][2] More at hu.
