- hvener
Etymology
Likely an exact cognate to Dutch wanneer (“when”). De Vries, however, prefers a derivation from hvé (“how”) + nær (“near”), with sense development "how near" > "how early" > "when". The first component is regardless related to Proto-Germanic *hwan (“when”).[1]
