  1. to drive in, hit, strike so that something goes into something else
    iesist naglu dēlīto drive a nail into a log (by hitting it, e.g. with a hammer)
    iesist mietu zemēto drive a pole into the ground (by hitting it)
    iesist bumbu vārtosto drive the ball into the (soccer) goal (by kicking it)
    iesist vārtusto score a goal (lit. to drive, hit a goal in)
    iesist volejbola bumbu tīklāto drive the volleyball into the net
    vējš iesit krusu sejāthe wind drives the hail into (one's) face
