Etymology

From Proto-Malayo-Polynesian *kilik (carried under the arm or on the hip), from Austroasiatic (cf. Proto-Austroasiatic *klʔiək (armpit), Khmer ក្លៀក (kliək), Khmu [Cuang] klʔɛk, Vietnamese nách).[1] Cognate with Malay kelek, Javanese ꦏꦺꦭꦺꦏ꧀ (kélék), Tagalog kilik (to carry on the hip supported by the arm).
