Literally, “to ask/beg for blood from one's nose”, due to a bloody nose being a common consequence of being punched in the face.

See kerjätä. verta is in the partitive case, but is inflected in the genitive in action nouns: see Appendix:Finnish verb phrases. nenästä is not inflected, but the latter often receives a possessive suffix:
