Non-Sino-Vietnamese reading of Chinese 空路 (“Path to Heaven”, SV: Không Lộ), the stone pillar that was supposedly constructed to separate heaven and earth and then destroyed by the creator god thần trụ trời.^[1]

Element khổng’s unetymological hỏi-tone is possibly due to influence of khủng (“big, huge, dreadful”); element lồ’s huyền-tone likely results from the same historical phonological process which yields doublets like loài & loại from 類 (MC lwijH), từ & tự from 自 (MC dzijH), dùng & dụng from 用 (MC yowngH), etc.
