Khasi

Etymology

From Proto-Austroasiatic *kap (to fasten). Compare Koho bəkap. May be connected to *giəp ~ *gap ~ *gaap, in which case cognate with Vietnamese cặp, Nancowry kə́p (hold), and Khmer កៀប (kiəp), គាប (kiəp); has also been linked to Chinese (OC *skaːb, *ɡeːb, “press, pinch, carry”).[1]
