From Middle Welsh llestyr, from Old Welsh lestir, from Proto-Brythonic *llestr, from Proto-Celtic *lestrom (“pot”), possibly from Proto-Indo-European *les- (“to gather”) + *-trom. Compare Irish leastar (“cup, vessel, tub”), Breton lestr (“vessel, vase, ship”).
