mīlīgs

From mīl(ēt) (“to love”) +‎ -īgs. Originally (in the 17th century) a synonym of mīļš (“dear, beloved”), including the romantic senses, these two words drifted apart semantically in the 18th century, at the end of which they were no longer fully synonymous.^[1]
