manh giông

Vietnamese

Etymology

manh +‎ giông (salamander); the first element is the Sino-Vietnamese word from (blind).

Most likely derived from Chinese 盲螈 (manh nguyên, blind salamander), with Sinitic (nguyên) being replaced by native giông while still keeping Chinese head-final structure. The result of regular calqueing would be *(kì) giông mù.
