mblesë
Albanian
Etymology
Either a derivative of mbloj, or from Proto-Albanian *ambi-pletsā, from Proto-Indo-European *pleḱt-t- (“to plait”). Cognate to Latin plectāre (“plait”), Old Norse flétta (“plait”), Old High German flechtan (“plait”). The semantic development goes from 'to interweave, tie together' to 'to combine' (an engagement).
