Etymology

From the name of the British company that manufactured them, from pedo- (foot) +‎ -scope.[1] Piecewise doublet of podoscope.

  1. A fluoroscope formerly used in shoe shops to aid in the fitting of shoes, especially to children; eventually banned because of the health risks from X-rays.
