Etymology

For its composition: from Ancient Greek πικρός (pikrós, “bitter”) in allusion to its magnesium content and φάρμακον (phármakon, “drug, medicine, poison”) for its arsenic content, with the mineral suffix from λίθος (líthos, “stone”). It is similar but not closely related to pharmacolite.
