From Vulgar Latin *restuclu < *restucŭlum (compare Spanish rastrojo, restojo, Aragonese restollo, Catalan rostoll, restoll, Occitan restolh, cf. also southern Italian dialectal restuccio), variant of *restupŭlum (compare Catalan and Occitan restoble), from a verb *restupulāre, from stupula, alteration of Latin stipula.
