Etymology
From Old Albanian shtanse, from *shtan + -zë, from Proto-Albanian *stana, from Proto-Indo-European *sth₂-nó-s (“standing”), participle of *steh₂- (“to stand”). Ultimately a doublet of stër-. Alternatively, from Dacian or paleo-balkan substrate, cognate to Romanian stână.[1]
