stannear

Spanish

Pronunciation

  • IPA(key): /estaneˈaɾ/ [es.t̪a.neˈaɾ]
  • Rhymes: -aɾ
  • Syllabification: stan‧ne‧ar

Verb

stannear (first-person singular present stanneo, first-person singular preterite stanneé, past participle stanneado)

  1. alternative spelling of estanear

Usage notes

  • Spanish orthography requires a vowel be placed before or after a word-initial s, hence why some Spanish speakers insert vowels (more specifically e) into English words without vowels before or after the word-initial s. For example, they may pronounce stop as estop or scared as escared. This variation of the word however, unlike estanear, does not follow that rule as it is an unadapted Anglicism used by teenagers.
