Etymology

From Persian تانبول (tânbul), from Sanskrit ताम्बूल (tāmbūla). Possibly via Hindi तांबूल (tāmbūl).[1] Lodhi also adds Gujarati તાંબૂલ (tāmbūl) as an intermediary.[2]
