tanzaku (plural tanzaku)

  1. (Japanese culture) A slip of paper that can be written on, especially those hung on bamboo or other trees during the Tanabata festival.
  2. (card games, hanafuda) A hanafuda playing card depicting a tanzaku (slip of paper) attached to the plant corresponding to the card's suit.
