thikë

Albanian

Etymology

From Proto-Albanian *tsikā, possibly derived from Proto-Indo-European *ḱeh₃- (to sharpen), compare Armenian սուր (sur, sharp; knife) and Sanskrit शा (śā, to sharpen).[1] Meyer considers an alternative borrowing from Latin sīca (a poniard, curved dagger),[2] while other scholars believe instead the opposite.[3]
