Etymology
Borrowed either directly from Turkic, from Proto-Turkic *tilmaç (“interpreter”) – Chuvash тӑлмач (tălmač, “interpreter”) –, or via a Slavic language, Proto-Slavic *tъlmačь (“interpreter”).[1]
