Usage notes
- þúsund is a neuter noun; thus, it adopts its plural form (also þúsund) and tveir assumes its neuter form tvö. However, the resulting expression is treated as an indeclinable adjective and remains as such in all grammatical cases, with any associated noun assuming the case required by the syntactic context. Multiples of hundrað (“hundred”) work the same way, but higher numerals are treated as nouns and govern an associated noun in the genitive plural.
