Etymology

Sino-Vietnamese word from 萬歲, composed of (ten thousand) and (years of age). Doublet of muôn tuổi.

Compare thiên tuế (Cycas pectinata, literally thousand years). The Cycas species are so named likely because of their long lifespan.
