viischt
Luxembourgish
Etymology
Probably a new formation from vir (“before, in front of”) + -st (superlative suffix). Alternatively it could continue the older equivalent Old High German furisto (“first, front, leading”), which had become rare in Middle High German, however. The development -irst-, -ürst- → -iischt- is phonetically regular. Compare German vorderster and Fürst, Dutch voorste and vorst.
